Randy & Caroline

On Saturday we went to Salisbury to attend Randy & Caroline's Wedding. Everything was very nice. The reception was at the Historic Salisbury Station. It's still used as an Amtrak station, but also has an awesome banquet area. You can find some pictures of the area here.

I <3 Peanut

Gizmodo has an interesting article about the evolution of the TiVo remote (aka The Peanut). Check it out here. The employee service awards are commemorative remotes, that's just awesome. Lara and I still say the TiVo remote is one of the best ever made.

We're back

Last week we went down to the beach with the family. We stopped in New Bern to pick up Sarah and Daniel from the airport. The town itself is very interesting, and reminds me of Wilmington. We have quite a few pictures here.

We had lunch in New Bern, and if you're visiting the area, be sure to check out Marina Sweets Cafe & Deli. The sandwiches and black bean hummus were amazing and very reasonably priced.

We also went to the aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. It was pretty good considering it was only $8, and only had fish native to NC. Their website can be found here. Now back to work, although thankfully it's a short week.

Firefox 3.0 available

In case you missed it, Firefox 3.0 is now available. Download it from getfirefox.com

I did have some issues with my original install that seem to be related to an older version of Google Desktop Search, but other than that it looks good.

I agree with Dave, the weather here sucks from late Spring to early Fall.

Right now it's 95F and the heat index is 100F. Ugh.

Work is for people who can't play video games.

Over the weekend, we watched The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters on G4. It's a David vs. Goliath story focused around competitive Classic Arcade games. At first, I didn't know if Lara would like it, but by the end she was yelling at the TV in support of the underdog Steve Wiebe. Billy Mitchell makes an excellent villain, and the whole story is very fascinating. I am a fan of documentaries, but I think anybody would enjoy this one. Go rent it, or watch the repeat airings on G4 on Friday and Saturday.

Here's the trailer for anybody that's curious.

Iron Man? That's kinda catchy.

This weekend, we finally got around to seeing Iron Man. Both Lara and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a great mix of excitement, fun, and even a little romance. The special effects are top notch, much better than previous superhero movies in my opinion.

I'm glad to see a sequel is already in the planning stages. For kicks, I even tried out the demo of the video game on Xbox Live. Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed with the game. Not a huge surprise considering most movie-based games are terrible.

Draft weekend

Overall, I think the Dolphins did a pretty good job on their picks. They're hurting in so many places, there's nowhere to go but up. For a full list of the new Dolphins click here.

Also, Appalachian had two players drafted, Dexter Jackson by the Buccaneers and Corey Lynch by the Bengals. Also, Kerry Brown was signed as a free agent with the Redskins and Julian Rauch with the Steelers.

Only 96 days until the preseason opener.

I'm still alive

Today was our Global Bike to Work Day. We had company wide participation from the US to Europe/Middle East to Eastern Asia. Ken and I spent a week or so perfecting our route, which ended up being around 10.5 miles. Well I'm proud to say, that I made it the full distance in around 90 minutes, although I definitely held Ken up. We'll see how I feel this afternoon to decide if I'm going to make the return trip or not......

Xbox Live Video Marketplace has the first episode of Voltron available for free download. It's one of my favorites from childhood, but I'm not sure how well it holds up after 20 years.

Space Explorers Captured	9/10/1984	23 minutes	SD Format: 0

Soul Calibur goodness

I'll definitely pick it up, since I've always enjoyed the series. I won't hold anything against them for making SC3 a PS2 exclusive.

They also announced the original Soulcalibur will be avaialble from the Xbox Live Arcade (sorry no PSN release). They didn't provide a release date, but I assume it will be prior to July 29th. You can find the press release here.

Finally, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the most recent trailer here and the one from last Fall here. I'm not thrilled about the Star Wars guest characters, but I guess I'll overlook that.
